Bobby Lanier Farm Park

By Andrew Pouncey

Bobby Lanier Farm Park is a 10-acre education and demonstration center for sustainable living through agriculture and stewardship.  The Farm Park driveway is located at 2660 Cross Country Drive and can be found by turning east on Stout Road from Germantown Road S.  The property once had horses grazing in the front yard, and today there are goats and chickens.

The Harvest Moon Pavilion is the centerpiece to the working farm and an ideal event setting suitable for a variety of group events.  An integral part of the working farm is the community garden.  Gardeners use organic methods to plant and maintain the gardens.  Then they harvest and share the produce among their members.

The Farm Park 4-H Club is a youth development program that offers educational services and family-friendly activities that encourage character development and excellence.  There is a Farmers’ Market which is held at C.O. Franklin Park on Poplar Pike behind the Pickering Center.  There is also a Germanton Farm Park Farmers’ Market.  Vendors who wish to sell at this market must certify in their application that they and their partners grow or raise their own products or make their own value-added products.

The Farm Park is open to pedestrians from dawn to dusk unless reserved for a special event or during inclement weather.  Farm Park gardens, barns, special amenities, and restrooms are accessible during the morning hours from mid-March through November when staff is on-site and/or when programs, tours, and field trips are scheduled.
